Welcome to the call for nominations! Each year the Florida Communication Association (FCA) presents awards at the annual convention to recognize the efforts of outstanding members. Our members are doing some amazing things out there which deserved to be recognized. We are currently accepting nominations for the 2021 convention. Interested individuals may nominate others or may nominate themselves. Nominees can be:

  • Full/Tenured Faculty
  • Adjunct Professors
  • Post-Doctoral Faculty
  • Graduate Students
  • Industry Leaders/Organizations

***All nominees for graduate and professional submissions must be current members of the FCA.

Faculty and Professional Awards

-Teacher of the Year
This award honors FCA members who have demonstrated excellence in teaching.  Nominees must teach courses in communication and have taught in some capacity for at least two years. Nominees are not limited to full-time faculty but can also be adjunct and post-doctoral professors. We kindly ask no graduate teaching assistants be nominated here but request they be nominated for the Student Scholar Award. Nominators should submit a nomination letter not exceeding two pages. The nominee will then be asked to provide a current curriculum vitae and a one-page philosophy of education. The nominee may also submit up to three additional pages of supporting documentation which may include: additional letters of recommendation, student evaluations, and/or professional evaluations which speak to the nominee's classroom performance.

To nominate an educator for this award please submit a two page max letter of nomination to Immediate Past President Kristen Foltz at kafoltz@ut.edu no later than October 1st, 2021.

-Scholar of the Year
This award honors FCA members who have demonstrated exceptional scholarly ability through research and publication in their academic careers. Nominees must be instructors, lecturers, or professors in the field of communication. In addition, nominees must have presented at FCA's annual convention and/or been published in the Florida Communication Journal in the past three years. Nominators should submit a letter of nomination not to exceed two pages. The nominee will then be asked to provide a current curriculum vitae and one to three representative publications. The nominee may also submit up to three additional pages of supporting documentation which may include: additional letters of recommendation, conference or publication feedback, and/or professional evaluations which speak to the nominee's scholarly accomplishments.

To nominate a scholar for this award, please submit a letter of nomination not to exceed one typed page to Immediate Past President Kristen Foltz at kafoltz@ut.edu no later than October 1st, 2021.

-Outstanding Service
This award honors FCA members who have made significant contributions to the FCA, the professional world, and the communities in which they are located. Through their service and leadership, nominees must demonstrate a commitment to serving others and bridging the gap between academia, industry, and community partners. Nominees may be any individual holding FCA membership status NOT including student members. Nominators should submit a letter of nomination not to exceed one page. Nominees will then be asked to provide evidence of their service, partnerships, and engagement work. The nominee may also submit up to three additional pages of supporting documentation which may include: a curriculum vitae, additional letters of recommendation, community partner feedback, and/or service accomplishments.

To nominate a scholar for this award, please submit a letter of nomination not to exceed one typed page to Immediate Past President Kristen Foltz at kafoltz@ut.edu no later than October 1st, 2021.

-Industry of the Year

This award honors industry leaders and professional organizations who are committed to bridging the gaps between communication scholarship and practitioners. Nominees must be an industry or professional organization who has committed to serve their community through collaboration and connect with communication scholars across the discipline. Nominees should demonstrate high levels of corporate social responsibility and ethical decision-making. Nominators should submit a letter of nomination not to exceed one page which should highlight the extraordinary work accomplished by the organization. The nominated industry leader or professional organization will then be asked to submit a portfolio including their mission/vision statement, CSR work, and impact on their surrounding community. Nominees may also submit up to three additional pages of supporting documentation which may include: client/customer reviews, community partner feedback, and/or service/industry accomplishments.

To nominate an organization for this award, please submit a letter of nomination not to exceed one typed page to Immediate Past President Kristen Foltz at kafoltz@ut.edu no later than October 1st, 2021.

 

Student Awards

-Student Scholarship Award
This award recognizes outstanding performance and scholarly activities by undergraduate and graduate student members of the FCA. Recipients will receive a $250 cash award to be used toward current or future educational pursuits. Nominators should submit a nomination letter not exceeding two pages. The nominee will then be asked to provide a current curriculum vitae or resume and a one page statement describing their academic and scholarly activity/achievements. The nominee may also submit up to three additional pages of supporting documentation which may include: additional letters of recommendation, abstracts of conference presentations, publications, and/or a brief writing sample.

To nominate a student for this award, please submit a letter of nomination not to exceed one typed page to Immediate Past President Kristen Foltz at kafoltz@ut.edu no later than October 1st, 2021.

-FCA Grant
The FCA is proud to provide a $500 grant to student members to help them support or accomplish an outstanding communication research or service project. Proposals may be submitted by an individual student member or a group of student members. Applicants may also submit up to three additional pages of supporting documentation which may include letters of recommendation, published articles highlighting the success of existing projects, and/or impact statements from those who are/would be served by the project. Recipients of the grant are required to return to the following year's convention and present the results or outcome of the project to the FCA members. The FCA Grant may be applied to projects or aspects of projects including but not limited to: theses/dissertations, extended semester research studies, applied projects, participant recruitment, and research (not conference) travel.

Interested students should submit a detailed proposal not to exceed two typed pages to Immediate Past President Kristen Foltz at kafoltz@ut.edu no later than October 1st, 2021.
